I am a parish office employee. What will happen to my job now that the Archbishop has made his decisions regarding All Things New?

Now that Archbishop Rozanski has made public his decisions regarding All Things New, we want to provide you with personnel resources as you navigate the future of your parish(es), whether they are being merged, subsumed, or will subsume another parish.

Below is what you can expect based on the model assigned to the parish for which you work:

  • If your parish will not experience any changes: The employees will not experience any changes due to the Archbishop’s announcement on Pentecost.
  • If your parish will share a pastor: Beginning August 1, your pastor will have 90 days to assess the needs of the parishes, develop staffing models and collaborate with the Office of Human Resources to work through realignment.
  • If your parish will be part of a newly created parish: Beginning August 1, your pastor will have 90 days to assess the needs of the new parish, develop staffing models and collaborate with the Office of Human Resources to work through realignment.
  • If your parish is subsuming another parish: Beginning August 1, your pastor will have 90 days to assess the needs of the parish, develop staffing models and collaborate with the Office of Human Resources to work through realignment.
  • If your parish is one that will be subsumed:
      • Because the parish will no longer exist beginning August 1, 2023, it can no longer act as an employer.
      • You will be contacted by a representative from the Office of Human Resources to review in person your separation and severance eligibility.
      • If you would like to pursue opportunities within the Archdiocese, we encourage you to apply by viewing open positions at https://www.archstl.org/human-resources/employment-opportunities

I am a parish school employee. What will happen to my job now that the Archbishop has made his decisions regarding All Things New?

The Archbishop’s decision does not immediately affect school operations. The Office of Catholic Education and Formation will work with pastors to continue to discern the future of our parish schools in the months ahead. As we prepare to implement changes regarding the 2024-25 school year, we will also address immediate needs as they arise, and this could include school closures that are unrelated to All Things New.

If my position is eliminated, what will happen to my unused sick days?

Sick leave days are not a paid benefit at separation of employment. Sick days are transferable to another parish or parish school if you continue employment in the Archdiocese.

If my position is eliminated, am I eligible for unemployment benefits?

No. The Archdiocese does not pay into unemployment. A severance package will be offered for employees that meet the required criterion.

If my position is eliminated, will I be eligible for severance?

Eligibility for severance is based on whether an employee is not employed elsewhere as of the date of the parish/school closure. Verification of job search may be requested by Human Resources.

If my position is eliminated and I am not able to find other employment by my last day of pay, how much severance will I be eligible for?

If you are a full time employee, have not secured other employment by your last day of pay, and have not turned down an employment offer, you will be eligible for one week of pay for every year of service with a minimum of four weeks and a maximum of twelve weeks.

If you are a part-time or hourly employee, have not secured other employment by your last day of pay, and have not turned down an employment offer, your severance will be based on the average number of hours worked weekly over the previous 12 months. You will be eligible for one week of pay for every year of service with a minimum of four weeks and a maximum of twelve weeks.

Is health insurance provided with the severance?

Yes, if you are eligible for severance and you were enrolled in the health insurance plan at the time of separation, you would receive the same number of weeks of health insurance paid 100% by the employer. You will receive information about continuing coverage after your last payment date, and if you choose to continue, coverage will be retroactive to the first day after your last pay date.

If my position is eliminated, what happens to my life insurance?

Employees will have the opportunity to convert their life insurance to an individual policy. This information is found in the benefits information previously provided to all employees.

If my position is eliminated, what happens to my retirement 503(b) plan?

Employees can leave their vested balances with Empower, or they can roll over their balance to another qualified plan. Employees who request a distribution prior to 59 ½ years old will be subject to taxes and penalties.

What if I am hired at another Archdiocesan parish/school?

Please inform your pastor (and principal and parish business manager, if applicable) when you are hired at another parish school. They will file the necessary paperwork to complete the transfer.

If I am hired for another job at another parish/school/Archdiocesan ministry, will I keep my current pay?

If the position is a non-contracted position, the salary would be commensurate with the position duties and responsibilities at the new job location. If the position is a contracted teacher position, you will be placed on the proper step/lane on the teacher salary scale at the new parish school.

If my position was eliminated, will I be allowed time off to interview?

Yes. Please coordinate time off with your pastor or principal to ensure appropriate coverage.

What if I receive a job offer that requires me to start prior to my scheduled last day of work?

Employees can discuss individual circumstances with their pastor.
