About Planning Area 7

  • The planning area is made up of parishes from the southern part of North County and northern part of West County deaneries. There are 10 territorial parishes, 1 personal parish and 4 elementary schools.
  • The percent of the population that is white has decreased from 71% in 2000 to 52% in 2020.
    • The black population has been stable
    • This area has one of the highest concentrations of Latinos in the Archdiocese – the planning area is only 7%, but there are areas that are 10-15%.
    • The area also has a large and growing Jewish, Indian (from India), Asian, and Middle Eastern population.
  • An aging Catholic population as funerals now equal baptisms; overall decline in number of baptisms, children in Catholic schools, and PSR enrollment.
  • Nearly 30% of students in day school are non-Catholic and 50% of the students are minorities.
  • A 30% decline in Mass attendance during the past decade.
  • Currently there are 10 diocesan priests assigned to this group.
  • Long term, there may be only 6 diocesan priests available for ministry to this planning area.

The data contained in the Parish Workbook was created by the Pastoral Planning Committee and validated by pastors and Key Parish Leaders over the past several months. The workbooks incorporate data gathered over the past twenty years from parishes across the Archdiocese of St. Louis and highlights historical trends which inform future projections for parish life.
